A small efficient hand tool weighing approx. 1 kg, the Fieldcraft Topgrafter executes the long V cleft cut most popular in Europe.
The efficiency of all grafting is shown in the take and speed of operation. The Fieldcraft Topgrafter is a precision instrument consisting of two blades, made of hardened steel, which can be removed, sharpened or replaced.
The, anvil is grooved and positions the grafting wood in the centre to provide a precision cut. The handle operates like a pair of pliers, and is spring loaded to open, ready for the next cut. The grafter can be bench mounted, or used loose for fieldwork.
To operate the grafter, the stock is first placed on the anvil and a "v" groove is neatly sliced out.
The scion wood selected is next positioned from the other side of the grafter, and sliced. The resultant cut matches perfectly with the rootstock.
It's important the selected scion wood is of similar size as the stock to be grafted. This ensures the cambium layers fit neatly together.
The Topgrafter is suitable for grafts from three millimetres to thirty millimetres. This graft is then taped as normal, and the operation completed.

The incredibly accurate Fieldcraft® System takes the guesswork out of grafting,
minimizing the skill required while ensuring maximum graft results.
Saving 50% of your labour cost
Increasing your graft take
Reducing your labor time
Labor cost saving. Untrained help can be utilized. With the skill taken away from grafting, beginners and professionals alike will achieve the same high success rate of grafts, resulting in a saving of labor cost by utilizing inexperienced help. The skilled worker will reduce his risk of graft failure, eliminate the tedium from his job and have time to spare.
Increasing your graft take. Because of the exact fitting cut, exclusion of any air ensures maximum cambium contact resulting in strong tidy grafts. A skilled person using a knife cannot match the speed, accuracy or consistency of the machine. Neither can a bench-mounted machine that cuts only the scion wood match this accuracy.
Time saving. With one person sizing, another cutting and a cadet taping, or an experienced man doing the entire chore they still move on to the next job with only a fraction of the time normally spent on the grafting operation The exact fitting cut also simplifies the taping operation.
Proven results. High quality workmanship has gone into the manufacture of these grafters and both machines have been extensively tested with the same high near to 100% of successful grafts resulting from kiwifruit, grapes, avocados, persimmons, nuts, ornamental, stone and pip fruit trees .
Durability. The Fieldcraft machines are sturdily made - guaranteed to withstand year after year of heavy work. The replaceable blades are long lasting requiring only regular sharpening to keep them in 'as new' condition.

The Graftech .
.
The Graftech has been designed to be solely bench mounted and specifically aimed at grafting operations performing large amounts of grafts yearly. Especially aimed at the commercial sector i.e. nurseries. The baseplate of the Graftech has been ergonomically designed so users of the tools are comfortable using the tool for long hours required when grafting in a nursery situation.
The Graftech is faster and designed for larger number of grafts performed in nursery situations and if you should be looking to increase throughput and reduce staff costs this may be the preferred tool.
The principal difference between the Graftech Topgrafter and the Topgrafter tools is the "Baseplate". One is handheld, while the Graftech mounts on a table with a foot pedal which performs the cutting action (executing 'V' cleft cuts). |

Operation
.
The Graftech manual tool was initially designed to replace the need for purchase of 2 tools (the Topgrafter and the Benchmount attachment). While these tools were effective for the nurseries that moved from bench grafting to field grafting and vice versa. These tools were not designed for large nurseries performing numerous grafts per year and were not user friendly when bench mounted.
The Graftech manual was initially designed to replace these tools. Since then
The foot pedal has been created to withstand years of heavy industrial use. The manual tool is very fast to set up and easy to use. Nurseries performing cuts on heavier stock such as Macadamia Nut have adopted the Graftech manual.
A number of smaller nurseries, vineyards and orchards are using this tool due to the low cost and ease of use.
Installation Instructions for Fieldcraft Graftech Manual Controlled Grafting Tool.
Measure 80mm from the edge of the from of desired grafting table and mark a slot of 50mm x 50mm to allow for the centre linkage to travel through.
Place base plate on bench above marked centre slot and mark the centre for the 2 holes at the rear of the base plate.
Drill two 10mm holes to secure the base plate to the H section through bench and cut out 50mm x 50mm hole for linkage travel.
Align base plate again and secure through bench to bottom mount frame H section.
Attach centre linkage to the knife carrier and place knife carrier onto shaft of base plate.
Adjust length of the foot pedal to the preferred height and attach to the H section.
Attach bottom part of centre linkage to the top of the pedal.
Ensure the knife carrier travels down enough to complete a cut then tighten the 2 locking nuts on the centre linkage.
The Graftech is now operational and the can now be controlled by pressing the foot pedal. |
